Issue #2 of parkrun magazine

Issue two of the parkrun magazine is available to order. Pay £2.95 to cover postage.

Issue two celebrates walking

The second edition of parkrun magazine coincided with parkrun’s 18th birthday and the introduction of the parkwalker volunteer role, so the pages celebrate walking: its health benefits, how sociable it can be, and even its history as a spectator sport in the 19th century! We hear from parkrun events about how they are encouraging walking, and learn more about the all-important tail walker – the reason no one ever comes last at parkrun. Plus, Joe Wicks told us all about the “Walk with Joe” initiative in which he walked at parkruns across the UK to support the BBC’s Children in Need appeal.

No barriers to participation

Every weekend, parkrunners of retirement age and older walk, jog, run and volunteer. We spoke to a few members of this amazing community, finding out how participation at parkrun helps to forge important social connections and keeps the mind and body healthy. We also learn more about parkrun’s Deaf community, including a record-breaking visit to Bushy parkrun.

Living a happier and healthier life doesn’t mean making drastic changes to what you do every day. Issue two of the magazine caught up with people who had made relatively small alterations to their daily lives and managed to reverse diagnoses of Type 2 diabetes. We also find out more about how a simple stretching routine can improve flexibility and posture – and help to get your body moving a little more.

Plus, of course, there are plenty of stories from Saturday and Sunday parkrunners throughout the UK, sharing their experiences of walking, jogging, running, volunteering and spectating every weekend.
